In my opinion, you are better off with 10.6 than 10.7.

Check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported after 10.6.

Also check to make sure there is a compatible driver for your printer.

Do a backup before installing, preferable 2 backups on 2 different drives.

I agree with Eric Root and Csound 1 that you should stay with OS X 10.6.8 and if you can, install more RAM.

Your year and model MacBook can take up to 6 GBs of RAM.

Correct and reliable Mac RAM can ONLY be purchased from online RAM sources Crucial memory (crucial .com) or OWC (macsales.com).

Also, if you are still using the 10.6.8 version of Apple Safari, you need to stop using this immediately , if not sooner!

That version of Safari has not been supported or updated in years!

Switch to using Mozilla Firefox ESR web browser as this is the only version that is still receiving security (but no more feature updates) for users of OS X 10.6.8-10.8.5. until April of 2017.

OR

Look at the SeaMonkey web browser.
